The word philosophy implies a number of things. In it, we understand the culture, functioning, values, motto, vision and many other important initiatives of a given organization. Aware of this broader sense, Kigali Independent University ULK organized an induction session in which all fresher students were introduced to the functioning of the institution. This event was witnessed on 10th February, 2022 and it was attended by senior officials of the University including Dr. RUSIBANA Claude, the Vice Chancellor, Rebecca BALINDA, the Chairperson of Internal Control Committee, Jacques NSENGIYUMVA, the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Marcel RWABUTOGO, the Director of Quality Assurance, Emmanuel RUGWIZANGOGA, the Director of Academic Services, Innocente UWIMBABAZI, the Chief Librarian, to mention just a few.

Speaking at the function, Dr. RUSIBANA Claude, the Vice Chancellor of ULK, thanked the students for having chosen ULK among all Universities operating in Rwanda. He promised them that their expectations will all be met during their stay at ULK.

“We’re very pleased to have you all here at our university. We really salute the decision you’ve made to join us. Some of you read about us online, and you didn’t bother to fly into the country for your education. We can guarantee you that your choice will never be regretted. We will always strive to help you embrace your academic aspirations”, he promised the students.

As Kigali Independent University houses a number of departments, the Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Jacques NSENGIYUMVA, expounded on the way financial matters are handled at the campus and online. In so doing, he told the students that tuition fees are paid every single term and this is done ahead of time to avoid missing exams. He also made it clear that the list of candidates’ names who qualify for the exam is availed timely to enable everyone to clear pending payments before the exam.

As she said, these are the pillars of all the gains the University has so far made and those yet to be made. She went further to urge the fresher students to live by the philosophy of their Alma Mater as this will enable them to achieve their academic dreams.

As a University endowed with a physical and a digital library, it was also a wonderful moment for the Chief Librarian, Ms. Innocente UWIMBABAZI to raise the awareness of the students on the functioning of these two libraries. As she underscored, these libraries are open for public use during working hours. Similarly, she noted that the digital library, which houses tens of thousands of e-books, can be visited remotely using the login credentials given by the University. In view of this, she encouraged all fresher students to make a good use of the library resources.

The function served as a platform in which a number of questions and concerns were attended to. The fresher students were excited to have the knowledge of the officials of the University and various service units found on the campus.
