MORE THAN 2000 GRADUATE FROM ULK BOTH CAMPUSES

On 24th December 2021, Kigali Independent University ULK held its virtual graduation ceremony, the second of its kind with a view to contain the spread of COVID-19. To kick-start the event, The Founder and President of ULK Prof. Dr RWIGAMBA Balinda, Led the congregation in a word of  prayer

The ceremony was both live on TV1 and several social networks of the University and those of TV1. Prof. Dr KALISA Mbanda, the Chancellor of ULK, officially opened the event which saw graduates and laureates from Kigali Independent University and ULK Polytechnic Institute officially earn their degrees and Advanced Diplomas.

Statistically, ULK Kigali Campus graduates, undergraduate section are 1,117, while their fellow graduates from Gisenyi Campus are 430. On the other hand, those who graduated with master’s degrees are 173 and 23 Kigali and Gisenyi Campus respectively. It is worth noting that ULK Polytechnic Institute crowned 334 graduates.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr SEKIBIBI Ezechiel, the Vice Chancellor of Kigali Independent University ULK expounded that the graduates completed their studies amid unprecedented times when the world was confronting COVID-19 Pandemic. However, he said that like any other visionary people, ULK managers braved the waves to find ways of meeting students’ expectations in those hard times.

“You’ve completed your studies in difficult times when the whole world is confronting COVID-19. But there is something we need to rejoice for- the fact that we continued to soldier on despite the challenging moments imposed by the pandemic. Having been able to withstand the difficulties means that you can also stand confidently on the marketplace”, he told the graduating class of 2021.

Testifying on her journey as a student, Divine Abayo, a law graduate, said that the road to graduation was full of ups and downs but with the help of the University, they have been able to come out victorious.

“Something worth saluting is that ULK stands by her students through thick and thin. I remember during the lockdown, when we were forced to stay at home as a way to curb down the spread of COVID-19, the University reached out to us through the e-learning platform and courses continued. Hadn’t it been their support, we wouldn’t be singing this graduation song”, she enthusiastically said.

The Principal of ULK Polytechnic Institute, Dr. SUMBIRI Djuma, said that the Institute he leads strives to equip students with technical skills which enable them to stand tall on the marketplace as job creators other than job seekers.

“Graduates from ULK Polytechnic Institute stand with confidence on the marketplace as they are equipped with technical skills that prove one’s mastery of a given career. When we send graduates to the marketplace therefore, we are sure, we’re sending solutions in construction technology, land surveying, electrical technology and telecommunication”, he said.

It is import to note that Kigali Independent University ULK offers degrees in Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, Development Studies and International Relations. Whereas, ULK Polytechnic Institute offers Advanced Diplomas in Construction Technology, Land Survey, Electrical Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication. In the same vein, ULK offers Master’s degrees in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, International Economics and Business Law, International Public Law, Internet Systems, Development Studies, and Governance.
