
Kigali Independent University ULK Emerged First in Writing and Reading Completions in Rwanda Among other HLIs in the Awarding Ceremony and High level book launch Celebration.
In the awarding ceremony of the best performers in book writing and reading competitions in Rwanda among higher learning institutions and high level book launch celebration organized by the Rwanda Writers Association on 4th April 2025 at Intare conference Arena in Rusororo, Kigali Independent University ULK was ranked number one among other institutions. Nahimana Edwin Chancelin a student of ULK, was the first best performer among all competitors from different institutions.

The best student performer was awarded many prizes including a certificate, medal, and a one million Rwandan francs package to support him to keep up with the spirit of book writing and reading. Among the 20 best competitors, ULK managed to secure 7 positions which ranked it at the first position among all other institutions in Rwanda for the 3rd consecutive time in a row. ULK students who emerged among the best performers came from all Kigali and Gisenyi campuses.

The Founder and President, VC and DVCA Gisenyi campus ULK and other representatives of Higher learning institutions participated in the competition in a group photo after receiving the certificates of participation.
Kigali Independent University secured many prizes than any other institution where in addition to being the first one among other institutions, it was also awarded as the best and first university to support students in book writing and reading and provision of all required resources, the President and Founder of ULK Prof. Dr. Rwigamba Balinda awarded as the first honored and great supporter of book writing and reading and awarded as the greatest sponsor of the event among other sponsors.

ULK Students who participated in the competition all commended the support and guidance they have always got from the management of the University and most especially from the Founder and President for setting up all required and fantastic infrastructure and other resources required to help them acquire knowledge and skills.
There was also a launch of the book titled Rwanda’s Path to Polls: Elections in a Nation Rebirth authored by Hategekimana Richard who is also the President of the Rwanda Writers Association. The book talks about the history of elections in Rwanda before, during and past colonial rule highlighting the nation’s uniqueness in conducting elections.
To support the culture of book writing, reading and knowledge dissemination, Kigali Independent University ULK Founder and President on spot bought copies worth one million Rwandan francs (1,000,000 Rwf)
