Rwandan Senators Praise ULK Gisenyi Campus Legal Aid Clinic For Promoting Access To Justice

On Tuesday February 10, 2026, a delegation of senators visited Kigali Independent University (ULK) Gisenyi Campus as part of their national outreach program aimed at engaging institutions involved in legal aid and justice-related services.

The delegation of senators composed by Hon. Gasana Alfred as the team lead, Hon. Bideri John Bonds and Hon. Rugira Amandin was officially welcomed by the DVCA-Gisenyi Campus Mr.  Hagumimana Frank, who introduced students participating in the Legal Aid Clinic Club and highlighted the university’s commitment to community service  in terms of law contribution.

The President of the Legal Aid Clinic Club, Mr. Nshizirungu Remy Philemon, presented the objectives and activities of the club. He explained that the club assists community members by raising awareness of laws and legal procedures, helping them resolve disputes amicably before they escalate to formal court proceedings, which often involve high costs and lengthy processes.

 

He further noted that the club prioritizes reconciliation and mediation, and in cases that require higher intervention, refers matters to competent authorities such as the Office of the Ombudsman and other relevant institutions.

Senators toured ULK Gisenyi campus Legal Aid Clinic, a student-led initiative dedicated to providing legal education, mediation, and support to community members. 

The visit concluded with remarks from the delegation leader, Hon. Gasana Alfred, who expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Legal Aid Clinic Club and the entire ULK Gisenyi Campus. He encouraged students and university management to maintain their dedication and expand their services in order to handle more cases and further promote access to justice within the community.

 

The visit underscored the vital role of higher learning institutions in supporting legal awareness, social responsibility, and justice through practical, community-centered initiatives.
