ULK AKNOWLEDGES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

Together with other partners and the United Nations, Kigali Independent University ULK and ULK Polytechnic stand in support of girls’ voices and vision for their future.

It is still evident that there are many girls in different communities in the world who are affected by global crises of climate change, poverty and conflicts resulting into denial of human rights and gender equality.

At ULK and UPI, our main objectives are to provide girls with support, knowledge, skills and opportunities to achieve their full potential.

The 2024 International day of the girl child was celebrated on 11th October 2024 with the theme, “Girls’ vision for the future”

Generally, The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights as agreed in 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing where countries solidly adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and this is the most progressive blueprint ever for advancing the rights of not only women but girls. The Beijing Declaration is the first to specifically call out girls’ rights.
