On October 18, 2024, Kigali Independent University (ULK) achieved a significant milestone by qualifying for the final stage of the 8th edition of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition. Organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Rwanda Red Cross Society (RRCS), and five Rwandan law schools, this prestigious competition brought together the best legal minds in Rwanda to debate on pressing issues of international humanitarian law.
For the first time since 2021, ULK proudly returned to the finals, reaffirming its position among the top contenders in this prestigious competition. Competing fiercely against the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK), ULK emerged as the runner-up. While UNILAK claimed the first-place position, ULK celebrated other significant victories, including the award for Best Defense Memorial and the Best Speaker for the Prosecution, earned by Layee V. Fofana.
